The KnitFit Community Knitathon is a community fundraiser and charitable event being held on February 20th, from 10 am to 5 pm at the McConnell Library in Sydney, and at the Baddeck Library in Baddeck. Knitters and crochet afficianados of all stripes, new or experienced, are invited to come for all or part of the day, start a project or bring one to finish. All library branches are also accepting donations of yarn, needles, finished items, or funds towards the Knit-a-thon.
Donated knitted or crocheted items and products of the knit-a-thon in Sydney will be given to Every Women’s Centre, a charity that provides free clothes to families in need in Cape Breton County. Goods donated and created in Baddeck will be donated to the Victoria County branches of the Nova Scotia Deptartment of Community Services where they will be made available to clients in need.
Participants are asked to have friends and family sponsor them, with all pledges going to support Children’s Literacy programs at Cape Breton Regional Library branches throughout the region. These include Summer Reading Program, Babies and Books, Toddler Time, Preschool and Saturday Storytime Programs, After School Library Fun and teen programs.
