He has been referred to as “one of the best flat-top guitar players in Canada.” While multi-instrumentalist J.P. Cormier can shift with ease from banjo to bass, mandolin to fiddle, to most things stringed, he credits the guitar as his defining instrument. “The first colour I remember seeing and feeling was that of the sound a six-string guitar made,” says Cormier, whose new album Primary Colour – A Guitar Collection will officially be released this Saturday night at Papa’s Pub in Port Hawkesbury.
In addition to the release of Cormier’s new album on Saturday, Newfoundland-based Garrison Guitars will host a unique day of workshops and performances at the Pub featuring Cormier and special guests Dave MacIsaac, Dave Gunning and Hilda Chiasson-Cormier. From 3:00 – 6:00pm, players can join “The Ultimate Guitar Workshop”, an exciting opportunity to experience Garrison’s guitars while picking up some pointers from J.P. and fellow multiple award-winning guitarist Dave MacIsaac. And then those in attendance can be assured of seeing and feeling every colour imaginable as Cormier is joined by MacIsaac, Gunning and Chiasson-Cormier for a premier performance in celebration of the new album.
