The Downtown Sydney Farmers Market and Select Nova Scotia are hosting an IncrEdible Picnic this Sunday, August 21, from 11 am to 3 pm at Wentworth Park in Sydney.
According to the Select Nova Scotia website, some of the food vendors onsite to sell their wares will include: Dangerous Angels (Specialty baking and artisan coffee); The Dancing River Sprite (Free range pork sausage in organic wraps); Feywood Grove Farm (vegetarian sandwiches, salads, and baked goods); Diva Delights (samosas, fatayres, paninis, and sausage on a bun); Charrick Keltic Farm (sandwiches made with Highland beef from Charrick Keltic Farm and other locally sourced ingredients); and Just Us coffee and chocolates.
Along with the food, activities for the entire family will be offered including “Sharing Nature”, a nature walk at 11 am. There will be children’s crafts table between 12 noon and 2 pm, and a children’s story time at 2 pm, and a special Teddy Bears’ Picnic.
For the older folk, there will be spinning and weaving demonstrations, as well as a tai chi session starting at 11 am.
Musical entertainment (good for the digestion, by the way) will be provided by a roster of talented local musicians: Danny MacNeil, Colette Deveaux, Alvin and the Artifacts, Ramsay Drover, and The Den Scholars.
Admission is free, with food items to be purchased from vendors. Seating will be limited, so chairs and blankets are encouraged. Please note that there is to be no alcohol consumed at the picnic.
The Downtown Sydney Farmers’ Market debuted this February in St. Andrews Hall on Sydney’s Bentick Street, and, with the reputedly warmer weather, moved outdoors across the street to the Aliant parking lot at the corner of Pitt and George. It operates every Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 pm.
Select Nova Scotia is a program of the Nova Scotia provincial government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Aquaculture. Its goal is to increase awareness and consumption of Nova Scotia produced and processed agri-food products by Nova Scotians and visitors.
