“Isn’t this great?”
“What a surprise!”
“Wonderful.”
These were just a few of the many comments that I overheard as I walked into the Insight Gallery on Main Street in Sydney Mines for their grand opening. Insight Gallery is a venue for the compositions of local artists. Founded by Kathleen Bunin, the Insight Gallery aspires to promote the arts and educate the artists and communities. Kathleen felt that local artists could benefit from interacting, on both a personal and professional level, through the running of a gallery. The group continues to expand its membership and seek fresh views. Non-members may participate as invited guest artists or through open calls for submissions, which are juried by group members.
A show of the founding members entitled “Home/Work” opened to the public during the last weeks of June. The gallery is planning new shows, as well as other events. Coming up are Images (June 29- July 25); Water (July 27-August 22); and Tar Ponds (reSPOND with ART) (August 24 – September 19).
