The avid cyclists of VELO Cape Breton are gearing up for their annual general meeting on November 24. Open to both VCB members and the general public, the meeting will present ideas for how the club can grow and creatively address the needs of cyclists and active transportation enthusiasts in 2011. Participants will have the opportunity to mingle with an open, social environment and have input into the future direction of VCB.
“This is an exciting time to be a part of the Club, as it continues to gain more credibility in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and the Maritimes,” said André Gallant, VCB past president. Velo Cape Breton keeps busy by organizing recreational cycling events for members of all ages and abilities, holding instructional workshops and supporting new cyclists, and advocating for cyclist-friendly communities. VCB has chapters all over the island, including Glace Bay, the CBRM Northside, Baddeck, Inverness, Port Hawkesbury, Sydney, and St. Peter’s.
Part of the AGM’s agenda will be electing executive positions, including treasurer, vice president, secretary, and a rides captain. The two new executive positions of Membership Registrar and Member at Large will also be instituted. Members will also vote on changes to the bylaws.
The meeting will be held at the CBRM Civic Centre round room at 320 Esplanade on Wednesday, November 24, 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Light refreshments will be served at 5:30 prior to meeting.
