Up and coming comedian Nick Beaton returns to his hometown of Sydney for a fourth performance on Wednesday, December 22 at The Capri Club to share with his friends, family and fans alike the new material he’s been working on over the last 12 months in his new home base of Toronto and on tour around eastern Canada.
The latter months of 2010 have been exciting for Beaton as he was a featured comic on Comedy Now!, a special that aired nationally in November on Comedy Central. The all-Canadian, uncensored stand-up series has helped pave the way for numerous Canadian writer/comedians including Brent Butt, Jeremy Hotz, Shaun Majumder, Sean Cullen, and Gavin Crawford. Beaton also appeared recently as a panelist on the Much Music program Video on Trial.
Other career highlights for Beaton include performances at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, the Halifax Comedy Festival and on CBC Radio’s The Debaters.
While Beaton has based himself in Toronto for the career opportunities provided by the large population, his Cape Breton roots shine through in his routines which aggressively mock what Beaton sees as the oversensitive and overly serious way in which modern society takes itself. He takes aim at the norms and abnorms that govern today’s romantic relationships, work relationships and even relationships between strangers.
In a recent interview with CAPR radio Beaton discusses at length how he got into comedy and how his career has evolved over the last eight years from acting in productions at CBU’s Boardmore Theatre to showcasing his own stand up material for representatives of CBS and NBC television networks in Los Angeles.
Opening for Beaton will be local comedians Ash Young and Steve LeBlanc. Admission is $10 dollars and showtime is from 8:30 to 10:30pm.
