Radio ECMA – brought to listeners through the Coast 89.7 FM – is now on the air, and will broadcast live throughout the 2010 East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference.
Radio ECMA celebrates the music of Atlantic Canada and will include live performances and interviews throughout its broadcast. Starting Thursday, March 4, Radio ECMA will broadcast live from the Delta Sydney lobby from 7 am to midnight. During these hours, listeners will have a chance to get acquainted with artists from the East Coast music scene through their songs and stories.
Singer-songwriter Jason MacDonald will be hosting the Meet The Music Song Circle daily from noon to 1pm and 6-7pm. MacDonald will be joined by special guests to discuss their music and play some songs. On Thursday the guests are Thor Kristinsson and Erin Martell at noon and Carmel Mikol and Andrew Doyle at 6pm. Friday’s guests are Buddy MacDonald and Wally MacAulay at noon and Duncan Wells and the Hupman Brothers at 6pm. Chad Tetford and Kim Wempe will be featured on Saturday at noon and Dougie Johnson will sit in at 6pm. And wrapping things up on Sunday will be John James Donovan and J.D. Clarke at noon and Allan O’Donnell, Colleen Leadbeater and Adam Cooke at 6pm. The Radio ECMA coverage will culminate with a simulcast of the 2010 Bell Aliant ECMA Music Awards Gala from Centre 200 in Sydney on Sunday, a project that is presented through a partnership with Bell Aliant. That broadcast begins at 7:30pm.
“Radio ECMA is an opportunity for people to learn more about the music of our region and the incredibly talented artists who make the music,” said Bill MacNeil, Radio ECMA chair. “Usually Radio ECMA is a very small wattage, temporary station heard within a small radius of the downtown core. To deliver this content via 6000 watts and online is outstanding.”
MacNeil added that The Coast’s mandate is to play and promote East Coast Music all year long, and applauded Bell Aliant’s hard work in supporting ECMA 2010.
“Radio ECMA is excited to be simulcasting the music awards gala from Centre 200,” MacNeil added. “Bell Aliant has demonstrated incredible support for Atlantic music and we’re honoured to partner with them on this unique venture.”
