“My goal has always been to share my passion for dance with others. Now I am able to bring my Alberta dance family to meet the remarkable people of Inverness county.” ~ Michelle Greenwell
Strathspey Place is set for a new family dance adventure on Thursday, July 29th at 2:00 pm. Michelle Greenwell, originally from Cochrane, Alberta, but now a new full time resident of Hillsborough, Cape Breton, is bringing a dance extravaganza to the stage of Strathspey Place. For many years now Michelle ran dance camps at Strathspey Place during her summer vacation on Cape Breton Island. Now in 2010, nine Alberta families and their dancers from the Dance Debut troupe are visiting Inverness County on a summer dance adventure.
They will perform on July 29th along with friends from Cape Breton.
The one hour performance will feature different styles of dance: tap, jazz, lyrical, highland, step dance and hip hop. Artists include: Dance Debut, Tyson Chen, Pius MacIssac, Trina Sampson Dancers, and many, many more.
Michelle first became involved in Cape Breton step dance 15 years ago when a student passed Mary Janet MacDonald’s step dance video to her. After much coaxing Michelle began teaching step dance only to discover there was a lot more to the style than met the eye on a video. Michelle contacted Mary Janet to come out to help straighten out the mess. The result was a dance connection between Cochrane to Port Hood and a workshop in Alberta featuring Mary Janet MacDonald’s incredible talent. The Alberta Troupe made a Celtic performing tour of Cape Breton in 1997, and then again in 1998, and then they headed to Scotland to share their passion in a castle tour of performances in 1999.
Michelle continued to travel to Cape Breton to study each summer and she also was privileged to host more amazing talents in Alberta: Mac Morin, Wendy MacIsaac, Andrea Beaton, Margie MacDonald, Ian McDougall, and Pius MacIsaac. Their talents helped push Dance Debut to new heights as they performed special Celtic choreographies across the province and beyond over the last decade.
In June of 2010, Michelle became a permanent resident of the Mabou area.
The show begins at 2:00 pm. For more information visit strathspeyplace.com/
