Youth Art Connection is an organization that utilizes an approach for engaging youth through art-skills and leadership programs. Founded in 2012 by Ryan Veltmeyer and Ann Denny in Spryfield, a community of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the non-profit organization works with youth, professional artists and community, and positive change is an underlying goal. This year, Youth Art Connection aims to extend their programs to reach out beyond the borders of the HRM with an arts-to-business development program, ArtPreneurs.
ArtPreneurs is a program for young artists between the ages of 16-25 who are talented enough to consider turning their artistic passion into a career. The program will accept 5-10 youth for an opportunity to connect with mentors in their field and in the broader arts industries, learning the basics of business as it applies to the arts, learn how to develop a plan to embrace their art as a business, and to consider the craft of “pitching” their business idea to potential investors.
The ArtPreneurs program has already had a successful run in the HRM, and the Youth Art Connection team would like to reach young people in the communities in and around Sydney, Bridgwater, and Clare, NS.
The program is currently accepting applicants until March 13, 2015. All artistic mediums will be considered. If you know a talented young person who has the potential to hone a creative product or service, visit youthartconnection.ca for more information.
