Some of the best established and emerging performance artists in Cape Breton have gathered together to create the unique theatrical experience that is Freakshow! On February 28th, 2015, this evening of theatre, poetry, and music in a carnival spirit will help shake off the winter blues, while raising funds for some of our most hard-working community mental health organizations.
Many individuals affected by mental health issues avoid accessing available resources because of the fear of stigma. This event aims to deconstruct those harmful narratives by celebrating our own inherent freakishness.
The Bandshell Players community theatre group reached out to individual artists and performance troupes from across the community to partake in this cause and the response was overwhelming.
Featuring performances from Todd Hiscock, Class Acts Drama School, Glace Bay Glee Club, Lindsay Thompson, Wayne McKay, the CBU Boardmore Theatre, and more, this one-of-a-kind variety show is truly a must see!
This event is in benefit of Pathways to Employment, a non-profit organization that provides individuals living with mental illness a variety of supported employment opportunities, and Crossroads Cape Breton, a community that supports recovery from mental illness through hope, opportunity, and work.
Freakshow! will take place at the Highland Arts Theatre, 8pm, Saturday February, 28. Tickets are $15 ($5 for students) and are available online, in person at Doktor Luke’s Coffee House, and at the door.
