The final event of this season of “IDEAS: Powered by Passion” hosts Dr. Ron MacCormick as the keynote speaker. Lori Burke of the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design will shed some light on the upcoming event, Lumiere. Musical guests include both the Den Scholars and the Take Note World Drummers. IDEAS takes place on Tuesday, June 7th at 7pm at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.
The series, which has quickly become dubbed as the “Cape Breton TED”, is about encouraging new thinking through speech and music. This series is meant to uncover the passions of our people through the sharing of their stories. Previous scintillating speakers have already inspired many IDEAS’ guests into action, helping them to realize their own passions. Together with a committee of community-driven, forward-thinkers, New Dawn Enterprises is proud to offer this speaker’s series as an open space to gather, collaborate, inspire and share.
Often responding to others’ passions and ideas by recognizing their ideas and helping to enable them, Dr. Ron MacCormick’s talk, “Ideas Powered by Others’ Passion”, will focus on how Cape Breton went from Canada’s highest cancer mortality in 1983 to the delivery of full care cancer services. Opening the evening is Lori Burke from the Cape Breton Centre from Craft & Design will introduce us to an exciting and unique, nighttime celebration of the arts: Lumière. And to celebrate the final talk of this season there will be two musical presentations. The Den Scholars is a nine-piece band that features a broad range of instrumentation including upright bass, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, cello, trumpet, and saxophone. Take Note World Music Drummers are believers in the power of the Drum for healing, community building and music making. As the evening tends to activate both sides of the brain of presenter and participant (guests), we gather afterwards at Governors Pub to keep the juicy dialogue flowing.
All talks in the series, “IDEAS: Powered by Passion”, are free admission. The final of this season’s six presentation takes place on Tuesday, June 7th 1 at 7pm at the Centre for Craft and Design (3rd floor). Attendees are encouraged to bring a friend, a smile, and their favourite mug to fill with complimentary organic, fair trade coffee or tea.
