For over 20 years, Every Woman’s Centre has provided school supplies for low-income families in Cape Breton who need help getting children back to class. From the earliest days of the Centre, staff has known that some families are filled with anxiety knowing they will struggle to fill the lists required for September. Most of us can recall that all important first day of school with the excitement of opening new pages, using new pens and wearing new clothes. For many, that just will not be a reality without the kind support of folks who care.
Through the generous support of the community, the Back To School Program strives to ease the burden that many families face at this busy time of year. The program is income based and each application is looked at to determine need. With rising costs of basic necessities, it is anticipated that many families will face a great challenge when factoring in the addition of school supplies and clothing required for students this year.
The community recognizes that education is key to a successful future for all children and Every Woman’s Centre strives to make sure that every student who registers with our program is supported in those efforts.
