Donna-Marie DeWolfe, of River Tillard in Richmond County, has been playing Cape Breton fiddle music since she was ten years old. As a child, she heard plenty of fiddle music in her home as her father, a Cape Breton traditional music lover, always had fiddle music playing in the house. She is very active in the Cape Breton music scene and plays for ceilidhs and dances around the island.
Gabrielle MacLellan is a native of Judique who took to the violin at a young age. Buddy MacMaster was a big influence for her as was her neighbour John Morris Rankin. Gabrielle comes from a very musical family and her tradition is very important to her. She plays at numerous dances, concerts, festivals, ceilidhs both locally and abroad.
Guitarist Tom Daniels was born in Labrador and grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He is a multi-instrumentalist and Professor of Jazz Studies at St. FX University who regularly plays as a duo with Gabrielle MacLellan. Together they weave a style of Celtic music that draws strongly from the Cape Breton tradition while incorporating jazz, classical and popular influences in a tasteful and elegant way.
Mary Elizabeth MacInnis, formally of Judique, now living in Mabou, Cape Breton is a fabulous piano player and daughter to famed fiddler, Buddy MacMaster. Mary Elizabeth has been performing with her father since age 14 at a concert at Judique Parish Hall. They have also performed together at the Glencoe Mills dances and in Boston, Washington and Toronto.
Cyril MacPhee was immersed in Cape Breton ceilidhs and heavily influenced by his father’s love of Scottish and Irish fiddling, country and bluegrass music, and folk singers. His musical influences are extremely varied, from the Beatles to Harry Hibbs, and this shows through in his songwriting and musical style. MacPhee has released five albums, three with the popular power-folk group Brakin’ Tradition and two as a solo artist.
