Attention Youts. Last March a number of young people from post-industrial Cape Breton met with a number of stakeholders from the community (i.e. business owners, labour leaders, government officials, school board, media, youth workers, Scott Gillard etc.). As a result of this conference numerous “action teams” have been set up with the aim of improving opportunities for youth in Cape Breton in areas such as Entrepreneurship, the Environment, Arts and Culture, Economic Development etc. Got some hair-brained idea for ways to make our communities better places to live? Want to do some-thing besides complain? Have a good idea but need some help getting it off the ground? Wanna all get together and find a decent jam space somewhere? Why not email me, devonstrang@yahoo.com and I’ll get you in contact with those in the know. Coincidentally enough those in the know can be contacted at cbyouth@hotmail.com send them your email, your area of interest and they’ll help your ideas become reality (hopefully) All that will be asked of you is to attend monthly meetings or at least email ideas and input. Some ideas already being bumped around include community gardens, rooftop gardens, a youth arts symposium, mural painting, an already well established junior board of trade, establishing a JAM SPACE and more. Tell them cblocals sent you. Thanks.
