Backed by Matt Foulds, Ryan MacNeil, Allie Bennett, and Gordie Sampson on electric guitar, Jennifer Roland attracted lots of attention with an impressive performance at Your Father’s Moustache on Thursday night. They did three sets of original tunes including one tune written by Karmie Steele who played piano as well. Their last set of tunes was a familiar bunch of Cape Breton tunes. A real nice arrangement to finish it off. spontaneous step-dancing in the crowd during this set, then Jennifer danced with taps while Matt played congos, then more spontaneous dancing in the crowd. The bar was full on this night but not too crowded. There were lots of Cape Bretoners in the crowd, clapping, hollering, whistling, dancing.
“Everything went great,” says Jennifer. “I was so nervous, but it really went smoothly. And of course, the whole experience was great. You’re in a dream environment; sure it’s great exposure, but to be surrounded by all those people, and all that music. That’s what makes it all so awesome.” (photo: Murd Smith)
