Violinist/fiddler Dwayne Côté and guitarist Duane Andrews are on the road this week for five concerts in the Maritimes. The multi award-winning duo will play The Upstairs Club in Sydney, on Wednesday (August 17) and the Normaway Inn, in Margaree on Thursday (August 18), before heading to Halifax, Chance Harbour, NB, and Hunter River, PEI.
Steeped in the rich musical traditions of Cape Breton and Newfoundland, Dwayne Côté and Duane Andrews twist their inimitable blend of East Coast Celtic and Roots music with strands of Gypsy and Jazz sounds. Heavily influenced by the brilliance of master violinists such as Winston Scotty Fitzgerald and Jascha Heifetz and legendary Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt, these stellar performers have been touring individually for years. In 2010 the two old friends combined forces to release their debut duo album (Dwayne Côté and Duane Andrews) which earned awards from MusicNL, MusicNS and the ECMA. They also won the Instrumental Album category from the Independent Music Awards whose judges this year included Tom Waits, Seal and Ozzy Osborne.
Hot off their recent Ontario tour, which saw the virtuosic duo take the stage at London’s Home County Festival as well as venues in Toronto, Ottawa, Peterborough, Brantford and Oakville, Dwayne and Duane are looking forward to performing for friends and fans in the Maritimes.
