Julia Childs once said, “I love cooking with wine, and sometimes I put it in the food”.
There is an upcoming cooking class wherein a learning experience doubles as an evening out. Chef Scott Morrison hosts these classes at Flavor (16 Pitt Street) the restaurant he owns with his wife Karry.
The learning happens in the dining room, where the Chef will prepare a dish and share the process – the recipe, techniques, and any helpful hints. You can take notes, ask questions, watch the process, sit back, relax and even have a glass of wine if you like. Meanwhile, cooks are in the kitchen preparing a complete version of the dish for each participant. So when the lesson is absorbed, the subject will be served up for you to try. This is a nice way to learn recipes, tips, and new ideas without having to compare your results with someone else’s. You can take your knowledge home to try out on your family, or for your next dinner party.
Morrison says that the classes will be a monthly event. Each class will focus on a theme. The class in December, for instance, was focused on hor d’oeuvres and desserts. January’s class focuses on Healthy Choices, and you will learn salads and dressings, as well as muffins and a few other items. There are two options, Tuesday January 26th and Wednesday January 27th, both evenings begin at 7:30 and preregistration is required, so book your spot! You can sign up at the restaurant (if you haven’t been there yet, go, the food is delicious). You can also register via email: scott@cbflavor.com or by phoning 562-6611.
