Afer a very sucessful Festival de l’Escaouette with popular shows such as le Grand Cercle and the new 60’s show “Soleil”, the volunteers and employees took a well deserved break, but not a long one as you will see with the shows and events that are upcoming in 2009-2010.
The ciné-weekend is back for another year with a presentation of “My Sister’s Keeper” on October 24th, and other presentation to follow in November and December. But something special will be seen on the big screen on the 18th of November, the Cape Breton première of le short film ” Soleil ” by Jaron Felix in partnership with CBC’s Viewfinders and the Atlanctic Film Festival. This film takes us for a facinating view inside the making of the 60’s show “Soleil”, the show piece of this year’s Festival de l’Escaouette. This series is organized primarly as a fund raising activity, so there is no set admission fee, but patrons are asked to donate a minimum of 5 dollars to enjoy a film in the surround sound theater.
Come celbrate Christmas on December 6th with “Le réveillon chez Zabeth et Joséphine. A full filled soirée of story and song Under the direction of Gilberte Cormier. Also in december the NDA school concert set for the 13th and 14th, and another Christmas show on the 22 nd with many local artists. The comedic team of Alexandre et Ryan will take to the stage with their new After Christmas Christmas show on Sunday the 27th.
To ease the January blues take in a sure fire crowd pleaser, “Retour sur l’été 2009”. on Sunday January 10th. This fundraiser for the Conseil takes a look back on some the most mémorable moments of 2009 such as snippets of plays and summers shows such as Soleil, Gélas, as well as a host of other local artists etc.
Le Théâtre Sans Détours will be back on February 13 and 14th just in time for Valentine’s Day with the comedy “L’Auberge des Morts Subites” by Félix LeClair. This halarious play was performed locally no less than thirty years ago.
March will be our busiest month starting with “Good Night Moon” a présentation of Théâtre Mermaid on March 1st. Followed up on the 8th to the 12th with a brand new series juste in time for Mi-Carême, “Le Relais de la Mi-carême” . This series of mini shows will be presented from 6 to 7 everyweek day during Mi-Carême week at the salle Père Anselme-Chiasson. And of course, la Caravane du Nord is back in full force with a première concert on Sunday March 21st.
April means la swing du Suête annual concert set for the 24th and 25th.
This year’s concert has a very special theme commemorating the 225th annivesary of Chéticamp.
