The Cape Breton Miners Museum along with the Savoy Theatre will host a moon gathering event under the stars, October 11, and it promises to be an adventure-filled evening like no other.
The Miners Museum grounds and the Miner’s Village grounds will be transformed and under full use–both inside and out, with street performers, a full moon blessing/ritual and more. Event organizer and Savoy Theatre board member Deana Lloy, says the gathering will offer a unique and magical experience to those who purchase a ticket.
“We’re celebrating all things moon and so there will be everything from psychics to fire-eaters,” she says. “Outside we’ll have fire pits, magic street acts, an actual fire-eater, street performers and a large animated puppet. We might also be visited by the legendary Ghost of the Savoy Theatre. One never knows.”
Inside the museum, ticket-buyers will be invited to experience a haunted version of an underground mine tour, or check in with Haunts from the Cape, a group dedicated to investigating paranormal activity in and around Cape Breton, as they test out their paranormal equipment within the mine cage.
“We’re also offering group psychic medium sessions that will take place inside the theatre at the museum,” says Lloy. “Our psychic medium, Anita Helle, will read the room and will do two separate sessions throughout the evening.”
The Cape Breton Pagan Society will be also on hand to educate and demonstrate the art of spell-writing, talk about witchcraft and the elements, and help visitors construct mini besoms (brooms) to take home as keepsakes. Also on board to share in the moon glow, will be a moon storyteller.
“We will have psychic mediums in attendance for those interested in private readings as well, but those private readings are available for an extra cost. Or patrons can also book an appointment with the psychic for another time. We’re happy to provide the access for people to make those connections that night,” says Lloy.
With all of that excitement, visitors are bound to get a little hungry, so the Miner’s Village restaurant will be open for business with a limited menu and is licensed to serve up some ice cold beverages. The event is for those19 and older only.
A vendor market featuring jewellery, crystals and other moon-friendly items will round out the evening. “We’re hoping everyone will come out, dressed to enjoy the outdoors and the indoors with us. If it’s cold we can warm up by the fires, by the light of the silvery moon,” she jokes. “Wouldn’t it be great to pack the place!”
The Colliery Moon Gathering takes place October 11, 7-10 pm. This is a 19+ event and the doors open at 6:30 pm. Ticket buyers are encouraged to buy the Early Bird tickets to receive a free gift (first 100 tickets) as well as $5 off the regular ticket price. Tickets are available at the Savoy Theatre, 902-842-1577 or tickets.savoytheatre.com.
