Since the independent release of her debut CD Lucky You Are almost two years ago, Newfoundland singer/songwriter Colleen Power has been getting noticed for her crafty songwriting and dynamic stage presence. Recognized as Female and Alternative Artist of 2001 by the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, Colleen was nominated for three East Coast Music Awards in 2002 and performed live on the nationally televised Awards Show. Colleen also had a mainstage showcase during ECMA 2002, which was recorded by CBC Radio and broadcast regionally on Atlantic Airwaves. Power’s performance was a big hit with the large and enthusiastic crowd gathered at the Saint John Convention Centre that February evening and among the crowd was Troy Greencorn, Artistic Director of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, who offered Colleen an opportunity to play at the award-winning Stan Rogers Folk Festival this year.
Colleen Power will be featured on the Stan Rogers Folk Festival Mainstage Saturday night (July 6) backed by Dave and Geoff Panting (formerly of Rawlins Cross) and will participate in workshops throughout the weekend. On her way to Canso, Power will be performing in Cape Breton, this Saturday night at the Red Shoe in Mabou and next Thursday (July 4) at Chandler’s Lounge in Sydney.
Power’s album Lucky You Are has been among the Top 20 selling albums at Fred’s Record Store in St. John’s, Newfoundland, since its release in 2000 and her music has been featured on CBC radio programs This Morning, Definitely Not The Opera and Atlantic Airwaves and has received airplay in Toronto, Saskatchewan, Saint John, Halifax, St. John’s, Cape Breton, Boston, Ottawa, Fredericton, Moncton, Antigonish and Bridgewater.
