Have you scavenged all you can from the cornucopia of awesomeness that is CBRM’s Heavy Garbage Week? Prolong the exhilaration of low cost, sustainable consumption through this Saturday, April 16th as the Downtown Sydney Farmers Market’s hosts a “clothing swap.”
Here’s the invite from the organizers:
“Bring some old, gently used clothes you don’t wear anymore or come find a gem that’s new-to-you! Admission to the market and all clothes are free, but bring some extra change for a coffee, snack, or other wares from our great local vendors. The market is located in St. Andrew’s church hall, 40 Bentinck St. and is open from 1-4 pm. We hope to see you there!”
The idea for a clothing swap first came from board member Jill Cloud, who says about her motivation: “I am a mother of 3 small children and my clothing size and theirs are always changing and I was getting tired of collecting outgrown clothing to give away for resale. It seemed a much better idea to just pass it along to someone who would use it for free. Our market is funded and operated by and for the community, and we want to make sure that everyone feels it is their space. Events like clothing swaps are something fun that everyone can participate in, while also saving families money. It also fits in with our market’s commitment to sustainability as it reduces waste. In today’s consumerist buy-and-throw-away society we’re happy to facilitate a little good honest free.”
