We all know the story of Scrooge. In fact we know it so well that his name has come to describe people who are stingy at Christmas time. The Dickens classic has been made into numerous movies – my personal favourite being Scrooged. It has also been staged countless times. No matter how many times it is presented, we always come back to it because it is a great story – a true classic!
The only thing better than watching A Christmas Carol during the holiday season is getting to eat a turkey dinner while you watch it. That is exactly what will be happening this weekend when the play is presented at the Southend Community Centre by Class Act Drama School. The play is directed by James F.W. Thompson for the second consecutive year. The production this year is far more polished and comes complete with great Christmas music and fabulous food!
Thompson says, “The reason I like this story – and why I think it has endured over time – is that it gives the Christmas spirit a ‘human face’ – most other Christmas stories have a mythical element to it; this one – at its heart – is a celebration of the lives of those people around us; people we see every day, and we need to consider and keep in mind.”
Check out A Christmas Carol this weekend. The show runs December 10-12 at 7 pm at the Southend Community Centre. Tickets are $30 and include a three-course turkey dinner. For more information call 562-8192.
