Through a partnership with Cape Breton University, Celtic Colours International Festival is offering an Entrance Award for the Bachelor of Arts Community Studies (BACS) Traditional Music Program.
“We are very pleased to offer this award in partnership with Celtic Colours for the second year,” said Chris McDonald, a music professor at CBU.
Last year’s recipient, Albert Bridge fiddler Claire Wilson, said “I have been attending and volunteering at Celtic Colours concerts for years, and I am very honoured that they chose me as the recipient for the entrance award last year. I am so happy to be majoring in music at CBU because the program is unique and special, and Celtic Colours’ support is very valuable.”
Cape Breton University’s Bachelor of Arts Community Studies (BACS) Music Major is Canada’s only music program focusing on traditional and tradition-based popular music, with particular emphasis on local music traditions like Celtic, Acadian and First Nations. The program is designed for students who have a passion for a broad range of music and want to work with music. This is the second year that Celtic Colours International Festival is offering this Entrance Award, valued at $1,500 CAD. It will be awarded to a first-year student enrolled in the program for the 2019/2020 academic year. Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to demonstrate an exceptional capacity and/or interest in the study of traditional music. The Festival will be making a recommendation to the Cape Breton University Awards Committee based upon applications received.
