Canada Day 2012 festivities begin in Petersfield Park, Westmount at 11am, on Sunday, July 1, with the Canada Day Parade, which will start at Riverview High School and wind its way down Riverdale Drive and Westmount Road. The Bicycle Parade will start at Petersfield Park at 12:30 pm and Canada Day Celebrations will officially open at 1pm, with live entertainment starting at 1:30 pm and running throughout the afternoon.
Other activities throughout the afternoon include serving of the Canada Day cake, games, canteen services, draws, and loads of children’s activities! Sponsored by Cape Breton Regional Recreation, the children’s activities will run from 1:30-4:30 pm, and will feature the Maritime Marionettes, Big Bounce tents, the Fun Van, face painting, balloon animals, big board games, a scavenger hunt, toss games, plank, sack and other races, parachute games, pie-eating contest and more fun! The Maritime Marionettes presentation of Rumpelstiltskin will be held at 2pm and 4pm.
The third annual Water Fun Fair, hosted in partnership with ACAP Cape Breton, CBRM Water Utility and CBRM Wastewater Operations, will feature nine different games and activities for young people. There will also be an eco-info table for adults. Join “Tappy” and the ACAP Cape Breton team throughout the afternoon for the CBRM Water Fun Fair. There will be an obstacle course, an artists corner, water fun and lots of fun games. Learn about water conservation, protecting our water sources, and what is wastewater, while having fun and making a splash!
Entertainment at the Petersfield Park throughout the afternoon includes The Pub Boys, Next Big Thing Talent Company High School Talent Search 2012 Top 4 Finalists including Erin King, Kyle Mischiek, Johnathan MacInnis, and winner Lena Murphy; Filipino Association of Cape Breton (songs and dance), Cyrus Orkish, Gillian Head, and the Fitzgerald School of Irish Dance.
