The Boardmore Theatre is lighting up the stage this month with auditions for its rendition of Eugene Lonesco’s masterpiece, Exit the King. Starting Saturday, July 14, the playhouse will hold auditions for actors who wish to perform in this classic as part of the Boardmore’s 42nd Season of Plays. The show will include six performances.
Auditions for roles of the Guard, the Doctor, and Marie or Juliette will take place from 1pm to 5pm at the Boardmore Playhouse. Audition pieces for Exit the King are available by contacting Todd Hiscock at todd_hiscock@cbu.ca.
In Exit The King, a King is informed early that he is dying, and his kingdom is likewise crumbling around him. As well as losing his physical capabilities, the King is losing control of the environments surrounding him. His struggle to maintain his power as well as his state of denial numbs the King’s pain of knowing his death is imminent. As characters leave the stage throughout the play, we are left with a lonely king preparing for the end.
Todd Hiscock, Artistic Director of Boardmore Theatre is very pleased to announce another full season of exciting plays led by a group of new and experienced directors.
“I am happy to welcome James F.W. Thompson to Boardmore Theatre in his directorial debut of Six Characters in Search of an Author. And, I would like to welcome back Gary Walsh, a long time contributor to our Season of Plays, as director of Exit the King,” says Hiscock. “Bruce Cathcart and Barb Stetter have built a solid reputation directing our full length musicals. This year Bruce and Barb will team up to stage Anything Goes.” Hiscock says he is looking forward to directing a production of The Company Store, a play based on the Sheldon Currie novel.
