From now until September 18, Cape Breton University will be overtaken with Frosh Week 2010 activities, one of the school year’s biggest undertakings for the CBU Students’ Union. Beyond the September 6-12 orientation for new students, there will be many events to choose from, including a mix of all-ages activities and some 19+ events.
Canada’s best-loved sex educator Sue Johanson (or “Doctor Sally” if you’re a Degrassi fan) will be holding one of her famous lectures at the CBU gymnasium on Monday, September 13. If you’re a first year university student who received a less-than-comprehensive sex education in grade school, the lecture is a must-see, but even the older-and-wiser always find plenty of entertainment and good advice on everything from condoms to etiquette and respecting your partner. Doors open at 8:00pm, and admission is $10. For more info on Johanson, visit sexwithsue.com.
On Tuesday September 14, there will be a free outdoor movie night in the CBU courtyard. From dusk until midnight, the screenings will include Shrek Forever After and Iron Man 2. Free popcorn and pop will be available courtesy of CBU Alumni.
There will be a Yuk Yuk’s comedy night at the CBUSU’s Pit Lounge on Wednesday, September 15. Doors open at 8:00pm, and admission is $7. This will be followed on September 16 by an in-person performance by The Mentalist, of Mystery TV, with doors opening at 7:00pm. The location for the all-ages mentalist show is at CBU, with venue to be announced. Admission is $7. Anyone planning on attending both shows can purchase combined admission for $10.
The fun won’t end after Frosh Week is over, though. After students are settled into their new routines, the CBUSU is planning on holding The World’s Largest Water Balloon Fight in an official Guinness Book of World Records bid. They will need participantion from as many students and community members as possible, so keep an eye out for an announcement of the details later this month.
