Residents of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) will have no shortage of activities to take part in over this winter. CBRM Recreation, the Cape Breton Highlanders basketball club and Ski Ben Eoin partner to kick off the annual Taste of Winter festival with a multi-event celebration on New Years Eve and New Years Day.
On December 31, CBRM Recreation and Cape Breton Highlanders basketball have come together to offer free admission to the Highlanders vs. Halifax Hurricanes game at 5pm. Preceding the game, a New Years Eve Block Party will take place at Centre 200 featuring a shoot around with Highlanders players, an outdoor adventure centre with games and inflatables, performance from young aerialist Adlie Leviten-Reid, and music from legendary Halifax hip hop group Universal Soul and renowned artist DJ IV.
Following the basketball game, the skies above will light up in celebration of New Years Eve with an exciting display of fireworks at 8pm. The event is free for all participants and open to all ages, with tickets for the basketball game available at the Centre 200 box office on the day of the event starting at 1pm.
Get the new year started at Ski Ben Eoin on New Years Day. If the the joy of hitting the slopes on the first day of the year isn’t enough to get you out for a taste of winter, Ski Ben Eoin’s popular tubing track will be open, CBRM Recreation will be offering wagon rides from the Two Rivers Wildlife Park, there will be archery from Highland Bow and Arrow, human curling celebrating the upcoming 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and much more for a family fun day at the hill. CBRM Recreation’s Taste of Winter began in 2017 with dozens of activities occurring across the region aimed at getting residents out of their homes and enjoying all the community has to offer. Taste of Winter 2019 will offer over two dozen activities from active living, sport, arts & culture, and community events from CBRM Recreation as well as dozens more from community groups across the CBRM.
