I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Cape Breton has some of the most talented, artistic people in Canada per capita hands down. It’s ridiculous. And some of the most talented people we have re young people who might not even know it! It’s equally ridiculous how much our young people can accomplish when given the opportunity to shine.
Well, the CBRM is offering that very opportunity to local music lovers!
The Youth in Music program will offer youth the chance to find their voice in the songwriting process to express themselves creatively. The eight week program, facilitated by CBRM Recreation Coordinator Joe Costello (the High Tide) and Jordan Hines (ECMA and Music Nova Scotia nominee Jofo), will help middle school and high school aged participants identify their individual talents, expand upon those skills, and utilize those skills in a collaborative group setting. The workshops will be based largely on the interests of the group, and their is no actual performance experience necessary! All you need is a love of music.
Youth in Music will take place each Tuesday evening at the Whitney Pier Youth Club on West Street in Whitney Pier starting October 3rd. There will be three groups, at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm, and limited space is available. There is no program fee to join, but a questionnaire to determine the participant’s interest must be completed and reviewed before being admitted to the program. Registration is now open at www.cbrmrecreation.ca .
