The great Tilda Swinton stars in a sumptuous, sensuous melodrama set in Italy at the turn of the 21st Century. Swinton plays Emma, a Russian exile who has married the aristocratic heir of an Italian textile dynasty. In a classic plot turn, the bored and restess Emma falls for a working class chef, with whom she proceeds to cook up a series of steamy dishes.
The sex scenes are generously spiced, reports the New Yorker, but it’s the eating scenes that will have you drooling, with seductive patter about marinated egg yolk, pea cream and zucchini flowers, prawns with risotto in sweet and sour sauce, and mixed fish with crunchy vegetables. Plan to leave the theatre feeling hungry.
Set in northern Italy, both the scenery and and the actors are delicious, ravishing, suspenseful, and gorgeous in this beautiful film.
I Am Love is the last movie of the fall series. It plays one show only, 7 pm, Thursday, December 2, at the Empire Theatre, 325 Prince Street, Sydney. cbfilms.ca.
