A non-profit theatre co-op, The Cape Breton Stage Company has been producing original, local work in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality since 2007. This summer, they will produce three plays in downtown Sydney. The plays will be produced in repertory throughout the summer by a company of student performers.
The company seeks submissions of original, preferably unproduced, scripts by Atlantic Canadian playwrights. They prefer plays for small casts (1-4 actors), with simple production requirements and a light tone suitable for summer fare. Please send only complete drafts (no summaries or partially completed scripts).
As a co-operative, CBSC exercises collective artistic input with all projects. Playwrights should bear this artistic spirit in mind, and should be open to having CBSC artists contribute to script development after their plays have been selected for production, although playwrights will retain final authority over their scripts.
Deadline for submissions is February 19, 2011. Submissions may be emailed (Word or PDF format preferred) to info@capestage.ca. Please include “Summer Nights Script Search” in your email’s subject heading.
