The Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design was honoured with an award at the 20th Annual Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Awards held at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre on October 20, 2009. Carol Beaton, the Centre’s executive director, credits strong board support, dedicated staff and a wealth of artistic talent with the Centre’s recent success.
The Centre was selected by a jury of business and community leaders for the Not for Profit Award given to a business or organization that demonstrates excellence in operations, contributes to the cause of not-for-profit organizations, follows best practices and shows strong growth in performance.Hon. Percy Paris, MLA for Waverly-Fall River-Beaverbank and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Heritage, put forth a motion that was carried unanimously in the NS Legislature on October 22 congratulating the Centre for, “playing a critical role in nurturing the talent of craftspeople in Cape Breton.”Congratulations are also in order for Galloping Cows Fine Food of Port Hood, Nova Scotia who took home the NSBI (Nova Scotia Business Initiative) sponsored Export Achievement Award. The award was presented in Port Hawkesbury at the Strait Area Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Business Awards October 23, 2009.
