Burger lovers and food fanatics of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality rejoice. CBRM Burger Week is back! From October 29 to November 5, support the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County by eating at participating Burger Week restaurants.
Hungry Cape Bretoners looking to support a good cause can choose from various burgers created by participating restaurants specially for Burger Week. Beef, veggie and chicken burgers appear this year, with toppings that include donair meat, avocado, sweet and sour pork belly, and roasted sweet potato. Restaurant-goers can then vote for their favourite burger online. A portion of the proceeds from each Burger Week burger sold will go toward helping patients and families living with life-threatening illnesses.
The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County is a community organization that provides comfort and care for palliative care patients and their families.
Hospice palliative care medical services alleviate pain, with an emphasis on comfort and improving life, not curing the disease. Hospice palliative care is an holistic approach. The physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual are treated as needed or desired by the patient.
The hospice experience is one that attempts to meet the many needs that confront palliative care patients and their families as they face the challenges of life-threatening illnesses together. Some of these needs are very tangible and some are simply delivered from the heart. The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County is guided by the needs of patients as well as the needs that are shared with us by the dedicated palliative care physicians, nurses and social workers who comprise the team that ensures the delivery of palliative care treatment and services.
Burger Week started in 2014 with 16 restaurants participating. This year there are more than 20 including Trio, Cambridge Suites; Downtown Nutrition; The Olive Tree; Flavor Restaurants; The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse; Celtic Junction, Casino Nova Scotia; Ziggy’s Pub; Saltspray, Holiday Inn; Crown & Moose, Holiday Inn; Kiju’s Restaurant; Kayla’s Grill at Main Event; Talo Cafebar; Jane’s Restaurant & Pizza; Bette’s Kitchen; and Mickey D’s Subs & Stuff.
