It’s been a busy year for the Guthro family: Dad Bruce has just released Celtic Crossing and son Dylan is releasing All That’s True (with his father and Dave Gunning as co-producers).
The Guthros have a four stop tour of the Maritimes to promote their two CDs with the single Cape Breton stop being at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Shannon Studio on Tuesday, December 13, at 7:30 pm.
Bruce’s CD, Celtic Crossing, featuring material being split between traditional and original songs from the award-winning Cape Breton songwriter, has already been released in Denmark and currently sits at #8 on the Danish sales charts. Celtic Crossing was recorded in Ireland with world renowned producer Donal Lunny who has produced records for Paul Brady, Elvis Costello, Rod Stewart, Indigo Girls and Sinéad O’Connor to name a few.
Guthro, who grew up on the Northside, had a rising career in Canada as an adult contemporary singer/songwriter before he was tapped to be lead singer for Scottish super group, Runrig.
Son Dylan started his musical career at age 6 when he performed with his dad on national television. He has since played at numerous folk festivals, both as a solo act and with his father, as well as regularly gigging in the Halifax area and beyond. Reviewers have complimented Dylan on his stage presence and exceptional musical abilities. He and his father have also co-written many songs together.
In a media release, Bruce Guthro says, “I’m very excited to showcase my new Celtic record in our local venues …. and it always makes me very proud to step on stage with Dylan. To watch him grow into such a great musician and solid young man has been one of the true joys in my life.”
Tickets for the Port Hawkesbury show are $28 and are available at the PHCC Box Office (625-2591) or online.
