The Board of Directors of Basketball Cape Breton (BCB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kenneth MacQueen as the organization’s first Executive Director. MacQueen will be responsible for the daily operations and implementation of the strategic plan along with driving new initiatives to help build a strong basketball community on the island.
“I am a strong supporter of Basketball Cape Breton’s mandate and am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for this organization. Dedicated individuals from the basketball community have been working hard to lay the groundwork for years and I look forward to building on that. I am thankful to Steve and the Board of Directors for their confidence and this opportunity,” says MacQueen.
“We are working to create a vibrant basketball community on the island, where all players and coaches have the opportunity to fully develop and grow their basketball skills. Our mission is to get as many people playing basketball in Cape Breton as possible. We also want to expand the recreational level opportunities and improve the skills and development of competitive players and teams island-wide.”
Previously, MacQueen was the Director of Business Development and Branch Manager at Freedom 55 Financial. MacQueen is an assistant coach with the Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS Men’s basketball team and a former CBU CAPERS basketball player. MacQueen was born and raised in Cape Breton and has been involved in basketball since an early age. He continues to give back to the sport across all age levels, coaching at the mini, bantam, midget, and high school levels before he joined the CBU coaching staff. MacQueen was also involved in planning, implementing and organizing a senior men’s and women’s league in the Sydney area.
“The Board is extremely pleased to appoint Kenneth as our first Executive Director as we feel we have the absolute right person in Kenneth to take this organization forward. Kenneth has the drive, focus, energy and passion, along with his strong organizational skills and love of the sport, to develop Basketball Cape Breton into a truly great organization,” says Steve Van Nostrand, President of Basketball Cape Breton.
Online registration for Basketball Cape Breton’s spring recreational league is now open. Anyone in Grade 3 to Grade 12 interested in playing can register online. Satellite registration events will be set up in each community.
