Art Damage
Murdering Your Inner Child
Independent 1998
For the uninitiated, this is a glimpse into a strange world indeed. If you have never heard of the digital assault of Atari Teenage Riot or the soft and intricate soundscapes of The Orb, Art Damage will be a complete and utter crash course in the wide variety of sounds encompassing electronica.
The selections on Murdering Your Inner Child were taken from hours of DAT tapes containing studio experimentations from a couple of years back. The music on the tape defies any simple categorization…there are elements of many different and exciting sub genres of dance-oriented music. Keyboards, stereo effects, vocal snippets, a drum machine and the odd sound effect give you headphones great bang for the buck. At times, the melodic waves of sound seem to be front and centre, which enables the listener to gently float through the haze of consciousness while at other times the dark music layered over dense beats will immediately sink to your gut. It is this range of emotions that will ultimately keep you looked into the grooves.
This release is a great example of how locals are pushing the envelope in some new and uncharted regions (see FUSIONfan, Sean Purdie, Vega Peeler, etc.) and the great thing about Art Damage is how you will be craving more(and hopefully on CD)…then SNAP!…you have to flip the tape over again. – Boost Ventilator
