ACAP Cape Breton is inviting Cape Bretoners to celebrate Earth Day with a whole week of events. With the snow melting and sun shining, it’s a great time of year to get active and learn more about our great outdoors. There are new events this year, like Thursday’s Eco-Renos & Rebates talk followed by Eco-Trivia at Governors Pub, but classics like the 20 Minute Make-Over are back. Everyone is encouraged to participate in Earth Week 2012.
Sunday, April 22nd is Earth Day. ACAP Cape Breton is encouraging everyone to get outside and enjoy our Earth. Hike, bike or do a community clean-up: anything to connect you to nature!
Monday, April 23rd marks the start of the Book & Magazine exchange at ACAP Cape Breton. Everyone is invited to bring in books and magazines you’d like to share and pick up a new-to-you read!
On Tuesday, April 24th, give your lawn a chemical-free boost, with the Green Grass Seed Giveaway from 12 to 1:30pm at Rona, 199 Townsend Street, Sydney. ACAP staff will be giving away a natural spot treatment – grass seed. Information on the provincial non-essential pesticide regulations will also be available.
Wednesday, April 25th is a great day for a walking break. Instead of a coffee, take a refreshing walk for your afternoon break. Join the group at the CBRM Civic Centre (320 Esplanade, Sydney) at 3 pm for a 15 minute walk around downtown. You never know who might drop by!
Thursday, April 26th is jam-packed with fun and eco-information. Visit ACAP at 7pm to learn about the latest energy efficient renovations and available rebates from the “A Bright Idea” talk by Home Energy Manager, Bruce Young. Then you can test your eco-trivia with Green Drinks & Eco-Trivia from 8:30 to 10pm at Governors Pub (233 Esplanade). Get a team of four, try a local brew and enjoy three rounds of trivia, just $5 per team.
On Friday, April 27th, the 20 Minute Make Over returns. Offices, classes and community groups can register their team and litter clean-up location with ACAP for the most fast-paced and fun clean-up. Last year, there were over 1,400 people participating across Cape Breton. Each team takes a before and after picture to show the difference 20 minutes can make. There will also be an announcement on Friday of the latest pick in the Pages for the Planet book club. Swing by ACAP CB to pick up your copy for a $5 deposit.
For more information on any of these events or to register for the 20 Minute Make Over, contact ACAP Cape Breton at 567-1628 or visit acapcb.ns.ca.
