With the weather getting warmer and the sun staying longer, it is time to celebrate our earth. From April 18 to 23, ACAP Cape Breton is inviting you to join in on the fun.
Earth Week kicked off with a Zero Waste Fuel Up on the morning of Monday, April 18, when commuters were invited to drop by ACAP Cape Breton with reusable mugs in hand for a free cup of coffee or tea. Tuesday morning was all about the pint-sized environmentalists and their care-givers to celebrate during Toddlers Morning Out.
Wednesday is all about learning. A plant identification walk will take place from 12:20pm to 12:50pm. Participants are asked to meet in front of ACAP Cape Breton then will proceed to trail through Wentworth Park and finish at the south end of Charlotte Street. The day will come to a close at TALO Cafebar in Glace Bay with a Trivia Night from 7-9pm.
Earth Day is Friday, April 22 and to celebrate in a big way, the annual 20 Minute Makeover will take place from 12pm to 12:20pm. With the snow beginning to melt, it’s a great time of year to get outside and do a bit of spring cleaning. Register your team from the office, community, school or group of friends to clean up an area around you that can use some TLC in only 20 minutes! Bags, gloves and stickers to mark your used garbage bags for pick up will be provided free of charge after registration.
“The ‘20 Minute Makeover’ has been an annual event of ACAP Cape Breton for many years,” notes Susan King, Executive Director of ACAP Cape Breton. “It is always wonderful to see groups from different communities take part. Twenty minutes will go by very fast but the impact it makes will be incredible.” Participants are encouraged to take before and after photos of the area they will be cleaning.
To wrap up Earth Week 2016, plan to spend an afternoon with ACAP Cape Breton staff for the second annual Big Glace Bay Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, April 23rd from 1-3pm. Dress warmly and prepare to make a difference.
