The comedic musical, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, is taking the stage at the Boardmore Theatre from February 24 to March 1. Directed by Bruce Cathcart, with Musical Direction by Barb Stetter, the musical is sure to get people laughing in their seats.
“We chose this musical because of its farcical nature and entertainment value. What better way to counter the winter doldrums than a belly full of laughs, delightful songs, and a cast of zany characters giving new meaning to the old adage, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do’?” says Director Bruce Cathcart.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251-183BC), the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. The plot displays many classic elements of farce, including puns, the slamming of doors, cases of mistaken identity, and satirical comments about social class.
