The Cape Breton University Boardmore Theatre is proud to present Home and Away: A Hockey Musical, directed by Todd Hiscock with musical direction by Barb Stetter. A six night only event, running from February 20 to 24 at 7PM and on February 25 at 2PM.
“Cape Bretoners love music and Cape Bretoners love hockey. I was very excited when I came across a musical that combines them both,” says Hiscock, who also serves as the Boardmore Playhouse Director. “Home and Away will resonate with local audiences through its music, theatricality, hockey and most of all through its sense of family.”
In Home and Away, there is a clash between the love for the game and the love for the family, which results in the audience getting a truly Canadian kitchen sink (musical) drama. Based on the book by Charlie Rhindress and music and lyrics by Dean Burry, Home and Away will look at one Maritime family’s relationship with hockey and reminds us that it is not always about the game.
“With this production featuring some of Cape Breton’s best musical theatre artists–including Ron Newcomble, Heather Kerr, Anita Danyluk, Bruce Cathcart, Rob Bowden, Kate Burns, Bob Lewandowski, Tony Hajjar, Joe MacPherson and Ken Chisholm–Home and Away will leave you singing along and cheering for your favourite team,” says Hiscock.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the Boardmore Theatre box office. The box office is open 1-5PM, Monday to Friday. For more information contact the Theatre box office at 902-563-1652.
Next up for the CBU Boardmore Theatre’s 47th Season of Plays is the Elizabeth Boardmore One Act Play Festival running March 22-25.
