It has been 30 years since the iconic Terry Fox ran in his Marathon of Hope across Canada, raising awareness and funds for cancer research. This year,the North Sydney Terry Fox committee is celebrating this milestone anniversary with a couple of special events.
The anniversary celebration kicks off this Sunday with the 6th annual concert held in honour of the marathon of hope. It boasts an extensive lineup of local talent, including singer-songwriter Carmel Mikol, The Blues Merchants Trio, 4 Men In A Tub, Kay’s Steppers, singer-songwriter Troy Young, stepdancers Jennifer Gauthier and Ashley Foster, Joey Bennet and Amy Baker, Chalk Dust, and fiddler Dwayne Cote accompanied by Doug MacPhee on keyboard. There will be a canteen and an even split draw.
The concert will be held at the North Sydney Firemen’s Club on Pierce St, Sunday September 12. Showtime is 2:00pm and general admission is $10 payable at the door. All proceeds will go to the Terry Fox Foundation.
The Terry Fox Run itself will take place Sunday, September 26th, welcoming all runners, walkers, and cyclists to enjoy the route along the North Sydney waterfront. The run starts and ends at the Northern Yacht Club, with registration at 9:30am. A certificate will be given to each participant, and refreshments will be provided. A limited number of Terry Fox t-shirts will be available for purchase.
