It’s summer time again and things are heating up for the Cape Breton Stage Company who are seeking submissions for their annual Cape Breton Stage Company Hits the Streets festival. This festival takes place on found spaces in downtown Sydney during the annual Action Week celebrations and is promoted as a part of Action Week. All proceeds are donated to the women and children of Transition House, Sydney.
The company is looking for original one act plays with simple production requirements. It is important to remember that this is an outdoor festival so tech requirements must be kept to a minimum. No tech requirements would be preferably. Writing of all genres will be accepted, however, content will be considered. Because this will be an outdoor production, the language must be suitable for anyone walking along the street.
While the company is willing to help out wherever possible, the only thing that can be guaranteed is a production space and a dress rehearsal. Ideally, the writer would find a director and that director will be responsible to find actors. The actors and director are responsible for rehearsals. If you are a writer who does not have a director and is not willing to direct your own play, you may still submit it and efforts may be made to accommodate you.
The Cape Breton Stage Company Hits the Streets festival is a great way to spread your theatrical wings. Perhaps you’re an actor who has never directed or written a play before, or a writer who has never acted, or a trapeze artist who doesn’t even know what a play is, this is an opportune time to try anything. It’s a fun festival about bringing more life and art to our downtown area and supporting a good cause.
