ACAP Cape Breton is excited to present the 2009 Eco Expo. Modeled after home and craft shows, this will be an event like no other. The Eco Expo will showcase the latest trends in environmental products, services and information under one roof. Exhibitors will feature eco-product and service information, and some will be selling environmentally friendly products including cleaning supplies, soaps and locally grown organic food.
Our Energy Corner will provide information regarding our EnerGuide for Homes program and will have Certified Energy Advisors on site to answer any of your energy questions. Experts on source water protection, active transportation, water conservation and solid waste management will be in attendance.
ACAP Cape Breton is pleased to welcome Lawrence Wells, a Mi’kmaq Elder, as a unique exhibitor. He will have a teepee set up outside where he will tell stories about our important relationship with Mother Earth.
Another major highlight of the Expo will be a return visit from Halifax based Oceans Wild. They will be bringing their 60 ft. inflatable whale, and will be taking children on ‘tours’ inside this magnificent sea creature. The CBU Starlab will also return, as well as Moby the Recycling Robot.
There will also be a workshop with Michael Milburn of the Cape Breton Vegetarian Association: Switching to a Plant-based Diet is a Win-Win-Win; Good for the Environment, Good for Your Health and Good for the Pocket Book. This presentation will contain charts, graphs, stories and how-tos on why switching to a plant based diet can be beneficial to you. He’ll be discussing the benefits of leading a vegetarian lifestyle and sharing tips and recipes! Check it out on Sunday October 25 at 2 p.m.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to Cape Breton residents once again,” says Eleanor Anderson, Executive Director of ACAP Cape Breton. “Last year’s event was quite successful, and we have made some great additions this year. We look forward to building on this initiative as an annual event. There really is something for everyone.”
