For seventeen years, the Granville Green Concert Series in Port Hawkesbury has offered the best in the region’s musical talent—and all for free.
This year the tradition continues beginning on July 10 and running every Sunday evening for six weeks until August 14.
Opening this year’s series is smoky voiced Jill Barber with special guest Mo Kenney.
The next week, on July 17, it’s roots rockers, The Stanfields and special guest Town Heroes. Big Pond’s first Grammy winning songwriter, Gordie Sampson takes the stage on Sunday, July 24, with his special guest Decota McNamara. And finishing off the series’ first on the last day of July is Tim Chaisson and Morning Fold, and special guest Molly Thomason.
August sees These Kids Wear Crowns on the 7th, with Newfoundland Celtic rockers Rawlins Cross, and special guest Kim Wempe finishing out the season on the 14th.
Each concert begins at 7 pm on Granville Street in Port Hawkesbury and, to relax and enjoy the music, concertgoers should bring their own blankets and chairs.
For the last fourteen years, NuStar has sponsored the concert series.
In a media release, Blaise MacDonnell, General Manager of NuStar Terminal Canada Partnership says, “We are pleased with the way it has grown as a fun weekly summer event for local families, and as an attraction for visitors to the area.”
Billy Joe MacLean, Mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury, in the same release, says “This partnership provides a rich cultural experience for our residents of all ages, summer after summer.”
The Granville Green Concert Series is produced by the Port Hawkesbury Parks Recreation and Tourism Department.
