Andrea Beaton comes from a long line of musicians, composers and dancers. She is an award-winning fiddler, tune composer and recording artist who is known for her powerful bow and driving style. She tours and teaches internationally and is in great demand as a teacher at music camps and fiddling/dancing workshops.
Kinnon Beaton grew up in Mabou, listening to his father Donald Angus (fiddler and composer) and piano-playing mother at home as well as playing for dances in the hall across the road. Kinnon has performed at dances, concerts and festivals throughout Canada, USA, and the UK. He has composed over 700 tunes, published two collection books and appeared on numerous recordings.
Betty Beaton started playing dances with her brother Buddy MacMaster when she was 14 and has been accompanying fiddlers on the piano ever since. She has taught in Cape Breton, USA and Scotland been on numerous recordings including Cape Breton Fiddle and Piano Music as part of the Beaton Family of Mabou a Smithsonian folkways recording.
Despite an early career touring as a rock drummer, Cheryl Smith’s choice of music was the Irish music she was exposed to at home, which led to the traditional Cape Breton music style. Cheryl moved to Cape Breton in 2000 and soon began playing percussion with many of the island’s popular musicians such as Natalie MacMaster, Shelly Campbell, Andrea Beaton, Troy MacGillivray and others.
